1720L AKAI Service Manual by Graham Bowman;

The AKAI 1720 model reel to reel tape recorder described in this Manual is quite an old unit - circa late 1960's. As a consequence, the description of the mechanical details - and adjustments thereof - is quite critical. The manual does this quite well. The schematics are also well presented and have detailed PCB overlays. Probably the only negative is that some half-tone detail has been lost from the original manual as it has been scanned in simple B&W.

(3) Checking the test result Check the followings on each item of the â��AND testâ��. (a) â��1. Fill AND MEMORY with W.â�� Check that all alphanumeric displays are filled with the letter â��Wâ��. (b) â��2. Fill AND MEMORY with M.â�� Check that all alphanumeric displays are filled with the letter â��Mâ��. (c) â��3. Fill AND MEMORY with BLANK.â�� Check that all alphanumeric displays light off. (d) â��4. Fill AND MEMORY with FULL.â�� Check that all dots of all alphanumeric displays light up. (e) â��5. Lum level = 3â�� Check that it is possible to adjust the brightness level 3 model (the 1st brightness). (f) â��6. Lum level = 2â�� Check that it is possible to adjust the brightness level 2 model (the 2nd brightness). (g) â��7. Lum level = 1â�� Check that it is possible to adjust the brightness level 1 model (the 2nd darkness). (h) â��8. Lum level = 0â�� Check that it is possible to adjust the brightness level 2 model (the 1st darkness). (4) Ending the â��And testâ�� Press your required terminal button to return to the â��H/W Tester on CPU-263â�� menu.
