The service was quick and simple, finding the service manual easy and it appears to be the original with colour schematics. It contained the info I was after and so sorted the problem.

Exactly what was needed to assess the product - excellent value and great service
3-1-5. Writing the EEP ROM
1. Start up the adjustment program VL500_Adj and click [MODE] and select [Adjust|Mode]. 2. Click [Initialize|EEPROM]. (It takes approximately 30 seconds for writing.) 3. Click [Start], and confirm that the camera shooting picture appears on the PC monitor. 4. Click [Stop]. 5. Click [Exit].
3-2. ADJUSTMENT
3-2-1. Setting
1. Start up the adjustment program VL500_Adj.exe and click [ADJ|Mode]. 2. Click [Start], and confirm that the camera shooting picture appears on the PC monitor. Confirm also that the POWER indicator LED (D800 on the IF-318 board) changes from green to orange.
3-2-2. Flange Back Adjustment (DFW-VL500 only)
Subject : Siemens Start chart 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. Click [AE|Manual] And select [Manual]. Click Iris and set Iris to [Open]. Click [Zoom] and set the zoom to the Tele end. Drag the Zoom Offset slider and obtain the best focus. Click [Zoom] and set the zoom to the Wide end. Drag the Focus Offset slider and obtain the best focus.
