If you have an air gap, check it at least once a month. IT IS NOT PART OF YOUR DISHWASHER. IT IS NOT COVERED IN YOUR WARRANTY. The air gap is easy to clean. With most types, first turn off the dishwasher, then lift off the chrome cover. Then unscrew the plastic cap and check for any build-up of grit. A toothpick makes cleaning easy. Check the air gap any time your dishwasher isn't draining well.
