The AKAI 1720 model reel to reel tape recorder described in this Manual is quite an old unit - circa late 1960's. As a consequence, the description of the mechanical details - and adjustments thereof - is quite critical. The manual does this quite well. The schematics are also well presented and have detailed PCB overlays. Probably the only negative is that some half-tone detail has been lost from the original manual as it has been scanned in simple B&W.

Notes: 1. Before troubleshooting, setup the PC�s display as below. � Resolution: 1024 x 768 � H-frequency: 61 kHz � V-frequency: 75 Hz 2. If no picture appears, make sure the power cord is correctly connected. 3. Check the following circuits. � No raster appears: Stand PCB, Main PCB � 14V develop but no screen: Main PCB � 14V does not develop: Main PCB 4. If you push and hold the Exit for more than 5 seconds, the monitor automatically turns back to the factory preset.

Yes Does proper 5.0V appear at Pin 5, 6 of IC401 and Pin 7, 8 of IC401? (DC 3.3V (DPMS_ON Pin 2 and 4 (OFF_SW) of IC401 must be low level) Yes Check IC402. No No Check IC204 and related circuit. No Check IC201, IC202 and related circuit. No Check signal cable and power adaptor and CN201.
