The service was quick and simple, finding the service manual easy and it appears to be the original with colour schematics. It contained the info I was after and so sorted the problem.

Note:
Mackie HR824 make extensive use of surface mount devices (SMD). Service on the HR824 must
only be undertaken by experienced service technicians with the right tools, experience and patience to perform surface mount rework when needed.

Select the output source to DVD directly.
TUNER/BAND
Selects the DVD Receiver�s tuner as the listening choice. (FM and AM bands)

Switches TV ON and OFF.

Switches DVD Receiver ON and OFF.
MUTING
Momentarily silence the speaker of the DVD Receiver.
AUTO FORMAT DIRECT
Selects sound mode between A.F.D. AUTO, PRO LOGIC, PLII MOVIE and PLII MUSIC.
TUNER MENU
Memorize a radio station frequency into the tuner. Press to clear preset stations from the tuner memory.
MODE
Selects sound mode between FLAT, ROCK, POP, JAZZ, CLASSIC and NEWS.
PROGRAM
Enters to the programme edit mode or exits from that.
FUNCTION
To select the Receiver�s source. (FM, AM, VIDEO, TV or CD/DVD) Opens and closes the disc tray.
