The service manual is really great - thanks to it I was able to install the laser unit and thus "save" my CD-player, which seemed to be impossible before I had the manual.

Section 3 Test Mode (Self-diagnosis)
HKPF-D270 is carried out the self-diagnosis of a defective circuit block in the test mode.
1. Statting of test mode Select DIP switch S5-1 to the lower (ON) position and turn ON the power switch of PFV-HD300/HD50A. Or select DIP switch S5-1 to the lower (ON) position and press system reset switch S1.
2. Lighting confirmation of display lamp All LEDs (from D2, D4 to D6, D8, D9 and D12) light for one second. D12 does not light off.
Inspection point NG Abnormality is found in the LED that is lighted off, its peripheral pattern, and soldering.
OK 3. Confirmation of circuit block LEDs (from D2, D4 to D6, D8 and D9) blink simultaneously. NG Inspection points 1 When D2 lights: Abnormality is found in IC62, its peripheral pattern, and soldering. 2 When D4 lights: Abnormality is found in IC72, its peripheral pattern, and soldering. 3 When D5 lights: Abnormality is found in IC74 and IC 75, these peripheral patterns, and solderings. 4 When D6 lights: Abnormality is found in IC87, its peripheral pattern, and soldering. 5 When D8 lights: Abnormality is found in IC80, its peripheral pattern, and soldering. 6 When D9 lights: Abnormality is found in IC89, its peripheral pattern, and soldering.
OK
Set DIP switch S5-1 to the upper (OFF) position, and turn OFF/ON the power switch of PFV-HD300/HD50A or press the system reset switch (S1).
