Genuine Toshiba owner's manual. Couldn't really ask for more. And written in understandable English in contrast to a few recent experiences I have had with manuals for other equipment other than Toshiba but made in China and written in "Chinglish"!

AccessoriesIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
The following accessories are available: - HQ55 Philishave shaving head. - HQ110 Philishave shaving head cleaner (shaving head cleaning spray).

Read these instructions for use carefully before using the appliance and save them for future reference. Keep the appliance dry (fig. 1). Store and use the appliance at a temperature between 5ºC and 35ºC.

EnvironmentIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Batteries contain substances that may pollute the environment. Do not throw batteries away with the normal household waste, but hand them in at an official collection point.

Inserting batteriesIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
The appliance runs on two LR6 AA 1.5-volt batteries. Preferably use Philips alkaline batteries. Make sure that your hands are dry when inserting the batteries. 1 Remove the lid of the battery compartment (fig. 2). 2 Place two batteries in the battery compartment (fig. 3). Make sure the + and - indications on the batteries match the indications in the battery compartment. The shaver does not work if the batteries have been placed incorrectly. 3 Put the lid of the battery compartment back onto the appliance. First insert the top part of the lid (1) and then press the bottom part down until you hear a click (2) (fig. 4). To avoid damage due to battery leakage: - do not expose the appliance to temperatures higher than 35ºC; - remove the batteries if the appliance is not going to be used for a month or more; - do not leave empty batteries in the appliance.

Every two months: shaving head
1 Make sure the shaver is switched off. 2 Remove the shaving unit by turning it anticlockwise (1) and lifting it off the shaver (2) (fig. 9). 3 Remove the retaining plate by turning it anticlockwise (1) and lifting it out of the shaving unit (2) (fig. 11). 4 Lift the frame with the shaving head out of the shaving unit and slide the shaving head out of the frame (fig. 12). 5 Clean the cutter with the shortbristled side of the brush (fig. 13). Brush carefully in the direction of the arrow. 6 Brush the guard (fig. 14). 7 Slide the shaving head back into the frame and put the frame back into the shaving unit (fig. 15). 8 Put the retaining plate back into the shaving unit and turn it clockwise (fig. 16). Make sure that the recesses of the retaining plate fit over the ridges in the shaving unit. 9 Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver. For extra thorough cleaning, clean the shaving head by putting it in a degreasing liquid (e.g. alcohol) every six months. To remove the shaving head, follow steps 1 to 4 described above. After cleaning, lubricate the central point on the inside of the guard with a drop of sewing machine oil to prevent wear of the shaving head (fig. 17).

TroubleshootingIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
1 Reduced shaving performance B Cause 1: the shaving head is dirty. B The shaver has not been cleaned well enough or has not been cleaned for a long time. Clean the shaver thoroughly before you continue shaving. See chapter 'Cleaning and maintenance'. B Cause 2: long hairs are obstructing the shaving head. Clean the cutter and guard with the brush supplied. See chapter 'Cleaning and maintenance', section 'Every two months: shaving head'.
B

Shaving time
Two new Philips alkaline batteries offer a shaving time of 45 minutes.

Cause 3: the shaving head is damaged or worn.

Using the applianceIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII Shaving
1 Switch the appliance on by pressing the switch lock and pushing the on/off slide upwards (fig. 5). The switch lock prevents accidental switching on of the appliance. 2 Move the shaving head quickly over your skin, making both straight and circular movements (fig. 6). Shaving on a dry face gives the best results. Your skin may need 2 or 3 weeks to get accustomed to the Philishave system. 3 Switch the shaver off by pushing the on/off slide downwards. 4 Put the protection cap on the shaver every time you have used it, to prevent damage (fig. 7).

Replace the shaving head. See chapter 'Replacement'. 2 The shaver does not work when the

on/off slide is pushed upwards. Cause 1: the batteries are empty

StorageIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Put the protection cap on the shaver to prevent damage (fig. 7).

Replace the batteries. See chapter 'Inserting batteries'.

ReplacementIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
Replace the shaving head every two years for optimal shaving results. Replace the damaged or worn shaving head with a HQ55 Philishave shaving head only. 1 Follow steps 1 to 4 in chapter 'Cleaning and maintenance', section 'Every two months: shaving head'. 2 Slide a new shaving head into the frame (fig. 18). 3 Put the frame with the shaving head and the frame back into the shaving unit (fig. 19). 4 Put the shaving unit back onto the shaver.

Cleaning and maintenanceIIIIIII
Regular cleaning guarantees better shaving performance.

Every week: shaving unit and hair chamber
1 Make sure the shaver is switched off. 2 Clean the top of the appliance first, using the brush supplied (fig. 8).
