 VSXD701S PIONEER Owner's Manual by Brad Copeland;
I purchased the unit from a private party and the original owners manual was not available. Having the ability to download it was extremely helpful and clarified operating the equipment immensely. This is a complicated unit and without the manual I would not have been able to maximize it's potential. Thank you.
 TK-361 KENWOOD Owner's Manual by Anthony Barnes Smith;
Being a user of older radios of many kinds, preferring them over more modern rigs, this manual was invaluable in the programming of my two. I now know for certain what the assorted buttons functions are, and am very grateful to have found this excellent site. Many thanks for your assistance, Tony.

Moving the system unit
If you need to move the main unit, first remove a disc if theres one in the player, then press STANDBY/ON on the front panel to turn the system off. Wait for GOOD BYE to disappear from the display, then unplug the power cord.1 Never lift or move the unit during playback discs rotate at high speeds and may damage.

Standard TV users
If you have a standard TV, the TV Screen setting (page 29) of this player should be set to 4:3 (Letter Box) or 4:3 (Pan & Scan), depending on which you prefer.
Set to 4:3 (Letter Box), widescreen discs are shown with black bars top and bottom.

Screen sizes and disc formats
DVD-Video discs come in different screen aspects, ranging from TV programs, which are generally 4:3, to CinemaScope widescreen movies2, with an aspect ratio of up to about 7:3. Televisions also come in different aspect ratios; standard 4:3 and widescreen 16:9.3

Set to 4:3 (Pan & Scan), widescreen discs are shown with the left and right sides cropped. Although the picture looks larger, you dont actually see the whole picture.

Widescreen TV users
If you have a widescreen TV, the TV Screen setting (page 29) of this player should be set to 16:9 (Wide) or 16:9 (Compressed). When you watch discs recorded in 4:3 format with the 16:9 (Wide) setting, you can use the TV controls to select how the picture is presented. Your TV may offer various zoom and stretch options; see the instructions that came with your TV for details. Please note that some movie aspect ratios are wider than 16:9, so even though you have a widescreen TV, these discs will still play in a letter box style with black bars at the top and bottom of the screen.

Please note that many widescreen discs override the players setting so that the disc is shown in letter box format regardless of the setting.

Note
1 Unplugging the unit before GOOD BYE disappears from the display may cause the system to return to the factory settings. 2 Many widescreen discs override the systems settings so that the disc is shown in letterbox format regardless of the setting. 3 Using the 16:9 (Wide) or 16:9 (Compressed) setting with a standard 4:3 TV, or one of the 4:3 settings with a widescreen TV, will result in picture distortion.
