The AKAI 1720 model reel to reel tape recorder described in this Manual is quite an old unit - circa late 1960's. As a consequence, the description of the mechanical details - and adjustments thereof - is quite critical. The manual does this quite well. The schematics are also well presented and have detailed PCB overlays. Probably the only negative is that some half-tone detail has been lost from the original manual as it has been scanned in simple B&W.

KAPITEL 4 MECHANIK
1. Vorsicht: Vor der Zerlegung oder dem Zusammenbau des Gerätes ist der Netzstecker zu ziehen. 2. Gelöste Schrauben sollten in Gruppen, nach Länge, Durchmesser und Ausbaubereich aufbewahrt werden. 3. Die Montageschrauben für Massekabel und Varistoren sind mit einer speziellen Unterlegscheibe versehen, die einen guten elektrischen Kontakt sicherstellt. Die Unterlegscheibe mu� beim Zusammenbau wieder verwendet werden. 4. Eine der Montageschrauben an der Rückwand ist mit einer Unterlegscheibe zum Schutz gegen statische Elektrizität versehen. Sie mu� beim Zusammenbau wieder angebracht werden. 5. Wenn möglich, sollte das Gerät nicht mit ausgebauten Komponenten betrieben werden. 6. Der Zusammenbau erfolgt in umgekehrter Reihenfolge der Zerlegungsschritte. 7. Beim Ausbau der Fixiereinheit ist darauf zu achten, da� der Türschalter oder der Hauptschalter ausgeschaltet ist.
