Jos pakasteosassa oleva huurrekerros tulee liian paksuksi, kaappi on kuitenkin sulatettava kokonaan seuraavalla tavalla: 1. Kaapin virransyöttö katkaistaan tai termostaattinuppi käännetään nolla-asentoon («O»). 2. Pakastetut elintarvikkeet otetaan pois kaapista, ympärille kääritään monta kerrosta sanomalehtipaperia ja pakasteet pannaan kylmään paikkaan. 3. Ovi pidetään auki ja jääkaapin ylimmälle hyllylle poistoaukon alle laitetaan astia ja tulppa irrotetaan kuvan mukaisesti. 4. Sulatuksen jälkeen kaapin sisäseinät pyyhitään huolellisesti kuiviksi ja tulppa laitetaan paikoilleen. Muovilasta laitetaan talteen seuraavaa käyttöä varten. Termostaattinuppi käännetään takaisin haluttuun asentoon tai kaapin virransyöttö kytketään päälle. Parin kolmen tunnin kuluttua elintarvikkeet voidaan panna takaisin pakastimeen. Tärkeää: Pakasteiden lämpötilan nousu saattaa Iyhentää niiden säilymisaikaa.
