The service was quick and simple, finding the service manual easy and it appears to be the original with colour schematics. It contained the info I was after and so sorted the problem.

3) Block Diagram
4) Wiring Diagram
5) Packaging management
6) Spare part & final assembly list (for PCB rev A and B) + exploded view
7) Test Procedures (where, how to measure voltage...) including Test Point diagram on the PCB.
8) IC and Transistor charts.
Excellent guide: very clear, good scan quality enabling us to print readable diagram :-)
Note:
Mackie HR824 make extensive use of surface mount devices (SMD). Service on the HR824 must
only be undertaken by experienced service technicians with the right tools, experience and patience to perform surface mount rework when needed.
HANDSET SECTION
MANUAL TEST MODE Set the Test Mode: 1. Enter the test mode by pressing key while pressing 1 and TALK keys when in idle condition. (Key operation n 1 n TALK ) Release the Test Mode: 1. Press the OFF key. 2. Turn off the power. (Remove the battery and replace them.) MACHINE TEST MODE Set the Test Mode: 1. Connect between TP316 (TEST I/O) and GND. 2. Set the Channel Setting terminal. (See page 20.) 3. Turn on the power to start the test mode. Release the Test Mode: 1. Turn off the power. 2. Remove the short plug and turn on the power.
OPERATION AT START OF TEST MODE � The ringer sounds for 500 msec. � Setting of channel: CH1 for manual test mode and the Channel Setting terminal for machine test mode. (See page 20.) � TX is set ON and the handset is allowed to call outside. RSSI is set to Hi sensitivity. � Liquid crystal display panel is turned ON for 1 sec. and then the channel is displayed (for example, Ch1 CH1=01). Back light is to be still ON.
