Luften suges gennem fedtfilteret og blæses derefter via aftræksslangen til aftrækskanalen og ud i det fri. Bordemhætten er, imodsætning til en emhætte, placeret lige ved siden af kogestedet. Bordemhætten kan indstilles i to højder, nederste og øverste position. Ved hver højde er der to sugehastigheder at vælge imellem. De har altid mulighed for at vælge en passende højde og sugehastighed afhængig af, hvad De steger og koger. Udover højde og hastighed, har De mulighed for at vælge sugeretning. Bordemhætten kan indstilles til at suge lige meget fra højre og venstre side, eller til kun at suge fra enten højre eller venstre side.
