Having bought a pre-owned Sony FM stereo tuner through eBay, it came without any manuals. It soon became clear that to get the best from this excellent tuner I needed a decent manual because much of the operation was not intuitive to a newboy to hi fi like me. I managed to download the official Sony multi-lingual manual from Owner-Manuals.com with no problem at all - a really quick and easy service. I'm very glad I did because I found out all the operations of the tuner and was then able to not only set it up quickly but also to get much more from it that poke-and-hope trialling would ever achieve. In my book $4.99 very well spent.
Selecting Preferences

The following preferences can be set.
MENU LANGUAGE
You can select the default �DVD menu� language to be displayed if the disc contains it. Each time you press , the setting language changes as follows.
ENGLISH = SPANISH = FRENCH = CHINESE = GERMAN = ITALIAN = JAPANESE = language code from AA to ZU (see the appendix �Language Code Chart�) Pressing changes the setting language in the reverse order of the above.
* If the selected language is not played, the disc�s default menu language is displayed.
AUDIO LANGUAGE
Up to eight audio languages can be recorded in a DVD disc. You can select the default audio language to be played if the disc contains it. Each time you press , the setting language changes as follows.

Up to 32 subtitle languages can be recorded in a DVD disc. You can select the default subtitle language to be displayed if the disc contains it. Each time you press , the setting language changes as follows.

ON SCREEN GUIDE
The XV-1000BK can display �on screen guide� icons or characters on the picture, which show what is happening to the disc or the XV-1000BK. You can turn the guide display on or off.
